We are nearing the close of this earth's history; soon we shall stand before the great white throne. Your opportunities for work will soon be past. Therefore work while it is called today... Watch for the souls with whom you come in contact. Watch for opportunities to speak a word in season to them. Do not wait for an introduction, or until you become acquainted with them, before you seek to save the perishing souls around you. If you will go to work in earnest, ways will open before you for the accomplishment of this work. Lean upon the divine arm for wisdom, strength, and skill for the work that God has given you to do.
Our High Calling p. 298

living the IIWEC life

The IIWEC life is never dull. Just when you think you’re on top of everything you’ll find another unexpected challenge to overcome, and the more you put in to your time at IIWEC, the more you’ll get out of it. You’ll be involved in classes and worships, strategic meetings and team debriefs, Bible studies, small groups and an active church life. Your experience will push your boundaries and push your buttons, and looking back you’ll see that it changed your life.

CLASSES

Classes at IIWEC are usually diverse, somewhat informal and interactive, but are always valuable experiences in your training to be a more effective disciple of Jesus. The course will be presented by a team of the most experienced and successful soul winners from Australia and overseas. You’ll gain a deeper knowledge of the doctrines of the SDA church, and learn how to share them. You’ll learn how to meet people that are ready to hear the Gospel. Specialists in various fields will be brought in to teach subjects such as dealing with specific groups of people, creation / evolution and voice / speech.

DEVOTIONS

You start your day early in the morning with Jesus, and no one else. You find a quiet place where you can talk to Him and He can talk to you. Maybe that’s in your room, or maybe you’ve found a great spot somewhere outside that you’ve claimed as your own special place. No one is making you have your devotions, but you’ve come to realise that you wouldn’t be able to survive the challenges of the day without that special time each morning. Being surrounded by others who, like you, recognise that need has made it easier for you to establish your pattern of morning devotions.

OUT WORKING

The work of a missionary isn’t always easy. There will be times when rejection after rejection are getting you down, when it’s cold and rainy, or when you feel like you’ve just messed up a great opportunity, but when you hear someone say their first prayer or surrender their life to Jesus you’ll know why you’re doing what you do. Bible work involves going door-to-door, teaching the Bible from house to house. You’ll usually be with a partner, and sometimes be one-on-one or in a small group. You’ll become an important part of the lives of your Bible study contacts. There will be driving, preparing, visiting, counselling, letterboxing, running errands, doing your admin, calling for help when you don’t know the answer to a difficult Bible question, and calling for help when your car breaks down. Your character will be tested, and be strengthened. You’ll come home late, but often you’ll be coming home with a great story to share.

ANOTHER FAMILY

When you’re working and studying, eating and travelling, laughing and crying every day with your IIWEC colleagues, it won’t take long to establish powerful friendships that will last from this life to the next.  You’ll get to know more people as you get involved with one of the dynamic, outreach-focussed local churches partnered with IIWEC. You’ll have lots of opportunities to build these friendships, including outings and activities and a camp or two.  So, once you start bringing your Bible study contacts along to social events and church you’ll be able to introduce them to you new family, and hopefully they’ll join the family, too!
