student standards

Thank you for considering IIWEC Oceania! We encourage our students to uphold a code of conduct that befits the standards of the Bible that promote the heart of Christ in his ministry here on earth. In your consideration to making an application we invite you to prayerfully consider the following standards and practices for IIWEC Oceania outlined below.

Biblical Principles

• Students are expected to live in harmony with Biblical teachings and the guidelines of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Personal Devotions

• We strongly encourage each student to maintain a regular time of personal prayer and Bible study. Without this experience, you will miss the blessing that could otherwise be yours during our time together.

Social Relations

• A friendly and professional association is expected between students. Due to the intensity of the program, dating or courting is not allowed among the students while in school. All students are required to maintain a high standard of moral purity, avoiding the appearance of inappropriate attentions to the opposite sex.

Sabbath Observance

• The Sabbath hours, from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, are sacred and joyous times for spiritual renewal, public worship, and Christian fellowship. Secular activities (shopping, business, and distracting amusements) are to be avoided during this time. Attendance at worship services is required, unless arrangements are made to accommodate special circumstances.

Dress

• Dress and grooming should be modest, neat, and clean. Please do not wear torn jeans, sleeveless tops, skin-tight apparel, low-cut or unbuttoned shirts, or jewellry of any kind. When participating in community outreach, a professional or professional-casual look is expected. (No jeans or T-shirts!) Ladies, skirts or feminine slacks are preferred. Gentlemen, please wear dress pants and collared shirts.

Forbidden Items

• In no case may recreational drugs, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, pornography, gang symbols, firearms, or occult items be permitted in the housing, car, or possession of It Is Written students. Discovery of such items is grounds for immediate dismissal without a refund.

Honesty

• All students are expected to have a high standard of personal integrity. All forms of dishonesty, such as cheating and plagiarism, are grounds for dismissal without a refund. Integrity should also be displayed in computer usage, avoiding accessing websites of questionable moral nature. Care must be taken in the use of equipment at It Is Written and local churches. Integrity should be shown in one's interactions with other students.

Attendance and Punctuality

• It Is Written encourages students to take responsibility for class attendance. Students must participate in all scheduled classes and outreach activities. Students must be on time to each scheduled event.

Non-compliance

• Students are asked to assist the staff and other students by manifesting a cooperative, harmonious attitude. Students must complete assignments by the date requested, meet community outreach goals, and abide by written rules as outlined in this handbook. If you have concerns, questions, or special circumstances, please discuss them with college administration. Every effort is made to carefully resolve such issues. It Is Written reserves the right to dismiss, without a refund, any student who fails to abide by IIWEC's standards, practices and principles.
